Galax, Virginia

A couple of months ago I read that the Bed and Breakfast Assn. was giving away free stays for veterans the night before Veteran's Day.  And we were lucky enough to get a room!

We stayed at The Doctor's Inn in Galax, Virginia.

The Dr. Virgil and Gladys Cox House was built around 1913 and still maintains many of its original features, and is listed on the Virginia Landmark Register and the National Register of Historic Places.

We stayed in the Dr. Robert Waddell room.

A lovely and very comfortable room!

Stu giving our gift basket they gave us a sniff...

On the landing upstairs, snacks and drinks.

The "waiting room" downstairs.

Stu and I with Margo the Innkeeper.

The dining room (after a great big breakfast).

The foyer.

The boxwood garden displays a c. 1920 sundial and a c. 1940 brick wall.

I think this was Stu's favorite...a pizza oven!  It definitely gave him ideas!

We saw this place on the way up, but not in time to take a picture...

Got it on the way back though...Priceless!

A few shots of the fall foliage before we left.
