She's Baaaaaack!

Wooo Hoooo!  We've got the Fiat back!

This is our mechanic Dennis...

He's a really big guy (of course in the fiat, everyone is really big!)!

We told him we wouldn't pick it up until he got in...  It wasn't pretty, but he did it!!  Here he is trying to take the easy way out!

There she is safely tucked in between the shovels and rakes...

Fall Update

Fall has definitely arrived!  We have already had frost advisories!  It's too early!  Oh well...

I realize I haven't put any pictures on in a really long time, this was just over three weeks ago.  Stu completely redid the entire yard (front, back, side and across the driveway).  This is just after seeding and scattering straw.

Here too, this is on the other side of the driveway, seeded and strawed...

This is one of our newest birds, we think it's a nuthatch.

Kind of hard to see, but he sure is a cutie!

The roses are still going strong.

Stu has been working on this area for the past week or so.  Pulling out some of the bigger rocks and making a wall on the left side.

Here comes Stu with a load of dirt.

And this is our newest visitor, cardinals!  They haven't made their way to the feeders yet, but it's only a matter of time!

This past weekend we went to Sevierville to a Volkswagen show.

We were looking for information, ideas, resources, etc... for when we start to restore our 1974 Karmann Ghia.

I don't know much about cars, but I'm pretty sure that's not original!

A man's VW bus is his....castle???

This was my favorite!  Stu has already shot down my idea of painting ours this color...

Ok, back to the yard...  We had planted some lavender along the walkway up to the house, but it really didn't to well here, between the brutal summer we had and the crappy soil, it's no wonder.  So we put in some nandinas, not my favorite, but I'm sure they will grow on me...no pun intended!

We are all decked out for Fall!

Stu put the lavenders we ripped out over across the driveway, we'll see how they do there.

Ahhhh, finally....Grass!

We cleaned up this area a couple of weeks ago and finally gave a couple of plants that spent the summer in pots sitting in the driveway a home!

  Backyard...more grass!

And this is 3 weeks (on Sunday) worth of growth for the front yard.

My celery, what's left of it, is still being chomped on too...

Wildlife!

I just happened to have my camera out the other morning while Stu and I were having coffee on the front porch...And the birds didn't disappoint!

A little hummy at the top of the tree lying in wait for another to chase away.

Kicking grass!  Here we go again!  Stu wasn't happy with the way the grass he just put in 3 weeks ago was coming up, or rather wasn't.  So, he completely re-did the whole front lawn.

This is the side yard with about a weeks worth of growth.

And the back yard at about 3 weeks, still has some thin spots, but looks pretty good!

A gold finch sitting on top of a sunflower that has gone to seed.

I'm pretty sure this was a "baby" gold finch... he landed on everything except the actual seed feeder!

Yup, even our freshly tilled front yard...

This cutie showed up last night munching on Stu's yummy new grass.

And this little one landed on my chair, actually he landed on my leg, but after a few minutes it felt kind of creepy so I moved him gently to the arm of the chair.

We did a lot of work in the yard today, but we were both too beat to take any pictures...  Maybe tomorrow!

Let The Yard Work Continue...

Our little Teddy Bear came back the other day...

Are you looking at me??

And got a hold of our bird feeder!

This is about when I heard the CRUNCH of the bird feeder...

And there he is with his snout in the feeder.

We are starting our lawn over again...  We planted the wrong type of grass and everything died with no rain and the heat of this summer.

Stu is not pleased with the results, this is two weeks old...  So, he's going to rototill everything up again.

I took this picture back on June 1st...

Wow!  I never would have thought this coleus would have gotten this huge!!  We call it "Big Red".

We have started working on the area across the driveway.  When it rains we get a pretty good river flowing through here.

This is before...

And this is after, hard to see much of an improvement, but trust me it looks much better!

We scattered everything with corn stalks in the hopes to hold the tsunami back.  We are expecting lots of rain tonight and tomorrow.  I hope we do, we really need it!!

This part is next.

 Stu working his tractor...

One of two big loads of corn stalks we cut today.

The plants we put in months ago are really starting to look good!  The lawn even looks ok from this angle!

I can't believe it!!  Our leaves are changing already!!

The grass in the backyard is coming in better than the front, but Stu still isn't happy with it...  And he really wasn't happy to see this, something is eating his nice soft, tender, tasty grass!

This is my favorite plant (right now anyway).  It's an Ever Red Loropetalum, it's an evergreen and blooms a lot.
