New Orleans, LA, Gulfport, MS and Montgomery, AL

I know, I know...it's been a long time!  So here we go, when we left Pensacola we headed to Gulfport, MS.  We took a quick day trip over to New Orleans. I had plans, big plans... but as we all know plans don't always work out.  For example, I wanted to start our day off at the Cafe Du Monde, but even as early as we went the line was ridiculous!  So we ended up down the street, no problem, coffee and beignets and no line...crisis averted.

Next we hopped on a tour bus, did I mention that it was freezing out?  Ok, maybe not freezing, but it was cold and windy!  So, what do we do?  Yup, to the open air, top floor of the bus!

Jackson Square.

This is a smaller version of the line we encountered at the Cafe Du Monde.

Superdome!

Hard to make it out in the picture, but the tree is covered in beads.

And the lamp post.

More beads.

We took a tour through Mardi Gras World, really neat place!

They took us in to watch a quick movie and gave us a piece of the famous King Cake and Stu got the baby in his piece!  Which of course means that he has to buy the cake next year.

New creations for next year have begun already.

And lots and lots of old floats that they re purpose when they can.

This place is huge!

There we are, all jestered up!

Some of the floats from this year.

Off to The Crazy Lobster for lunch!  A little Voodoo juice...

And calimari to start!

And two Po Boys to finish!

And what visit to New Orleans would be complete without a trip to Bourbon Street?

Pretty quiet right now.

We are always asking around looking for good restaurant recommendations, and boy was this a good one!  Darwell's Cafe, what a great place!  The owner met us at the door, gave us the run down on the menu and even gave us samples!

Stu got the Crawfish Etoufee and I got the Shrimp Creole, deeeeeeelicious!

The owner's father paints and has prints all over the walls, this one was above out table and we loved it!

I had to take a picture of this...too funny!

On to Montgomery, Alabama!

This was the church were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached.

And his home.

"The Alley", renovated with lots of great restaurants.

On to Biscuit Stadium, yup, their minor league baseball team is called the biscuits, I know, wow.  Anyway, they are the Tampa Bay Rays AA affiliate.

The stadium used to be the confederate military prison.

Then the Western Railway of Alabama.

Yup, that's the gift shop...

Hahahahahahaha!

It's hard to see in this picture, but they enclosed the old courthouse in a new building, amazing!

The capitol building.

Montgomery is a beautiful city and we had a beautiful day!

Upward to the dome!

One of the many paintings in the rotunda.

The view from the steps of the capital.

Back near the visitor's center.

More to come soon...
